Hawaii has just arrived in New York as the L&L BBQ franchise has made its way to Downtown Manhattan. Johnson Kam and Eddie Flores, Jr., both budding entrepreneurs, purchased the L&L Drive-Inn on Liliha Street in Honolulu, Hawaii, founding the restaurant in 1976.

They were among the first to build a reputation of serving fresh plate lunches, in generous portions, at low prices across Hawaii with their very successful chain of L&L Drive-Inn restaurants.
To understand the menu definition of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, one must look back to the predecessor of Hawaiian Barbecue—the Hawaiian plate lunch. The traditional Hawaiian plate lunch consists of two servings of rice, a serving of macaroni salad, and features a generous serving of a hot entrée (a smaller “mini” version of traditional plate lunch consists of one serving of rice, a serving of macaroni salad, and a small serving of a hot entrée). L&L’s Hawaiian Barbecue’s unique meal composition and signature brand of Asian and American fusion cuisine has helped it to stand out from the others.
The L&L Hawaiian Barbecue concept has spread like wild fire. Today there are over one hundred and ninety-four L&L restaurants in Hawaii, California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, and New York.
L&L’s strong Hawaii roots provide the company with the clout to be able to give customers an authentic Hawaiian taste and an authentic experience. L&L is the biggest thing to come out of Hawaii since surfing!

L&L’s Hawaiian Barbecue concept success has earned the company many awards and continued rankings in various local and national magazines. In 2002, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue was named one of the “50 Regional Powerhouse Chains” by Nation’s Restaurant News. The July 2005 issue of Restaurant & Institution Magazine ranked L&L #314 out of America’s top 400 restaurant chains. Additionally, Restaurant Business magazine ranked L&L #15 of its 50 Top Growth Chains in the Nation in 2005. Entrepreneur magazine has also ranked L&L’s parent company, L&L Franchise, Inc. at #165 out of the top 500 franchise in 2005.

Food came in about 30 minutes. The side salad was a sad little salad with one cucumber, one tomato and a few leaves of lettuce. The ribs weren't too bad, a little too salty to my liking but still good. The delivery guy needs to be fired though, he was so rude and gave me a dirty look for having him come into the office and screamed in my face that the food was here. That's your job - to deliver the food where I requested. Terrible.

This place was OK. Quality of meats was less than stellar but prepared nicely and an overall tasty experience.

The chicken BBQ is so good. Skip the teriyaki and the macaroni salad. Chicken salad (with dark meat only) is good. Ask for extra ginger dressing. Its the best! The fried shrimp is also very good.

Fast delivery. Lunch plates are consistently good.

Good portions, delivery time within range given and food was good. Had the BBQ Chicken and Loco Moco. Would order from again.

Got the roast duck and pork plate. Delivery time was fast, under half hour. But the food wasn't that great. the pork was over-cooked (dry as a rock) and the duck was mostly bones. the salad was one giant chunk of tomato and another giant chunk of cucumber and a few shreds of lettuce. Didn't even include any dressing and I specifically asked for dressing on the side. I guess the only decent part of the meal was the rice but then again it's hard to screw up rice. Disappointing meal all around. Most likely not going to order from this place again.

Good food at affordable prices. The chicken BBQ and katsu dishes are fantastic. Generous portions for what you pay. DO NOT order the salmon, unless you want to be disgusted.

This food will probably kill me, but damn its good.

Food never arrived. Manager was adamant that it had been delivered, but there's nothing for L&L downstairs. Whether it was a mix up at security or the restaurants fault, the appropriate response should be we'll send you another order. Not, I can send you the signed receipt if you want. I'm at 125 Broad Street. Seamless credited it back

The bbq chicken and the spam masubi are my favorites here. Tried to mokoloko but the gravy kind of neutralized the potential. Still, brings me back to Hawaii once a month.

Flavor is good and it's very filing. They have decreased the amount of ribs you get though =(

Super fast delivery...the guidelines are over estimated, probably so you aren't disappointed. Everything I've had has been great. My personal favorite is the BBQ chicken. The combo plates are ginormous. My Hawaiian friends love it too!

Amazing value. LOVE the mac salad, ginger dressing, and bbq chicken. Not the healthiest food out there, but it's consistently tasty with quick delivery.

This place is great. Proper Hawaiian plate lunches. BBQ short ribs, loco moco, spam musubis are amazing. Plus, they have the local hawaiian juice. Awesome.

If you are in delivery range for L&L and you like your fried food delivered piping hot and crispy, boy is L&L the place for you! You'll also be a fan if you think spam is under-appreciated, if you are a Hawaii-phile or if you like to eat food with fun names like loco moco! By far my favorite thing on the menu is the Super Mixed Plate ($13.59), which will give you the best sampling of all the BBQ goodness. I also like the L&L Combo ($11.99) with fried seafood and the Hawaiian Haupia (Coconut Pudding) ($1.99). All of the mixed plates feature some combination of the following: 1. Eggs - the abundance of random sides of fried eggs on the menu makes me absurdly happy. The Super Mixed Plate comes with 3 eggs! Also, Loco Moco is code for hamburger patties with eggs on top - like a naked Texas burger! 2. BBQ Chicken - really good chicken - nice and tender with what I think is a soy sauce based marinade. The portions are usually pretty generous and the small lunch box ($6.99) is a great deal 3. BBQ Beef - also delicious, but I prefer the chicken 4. BBQ Short Rib - not a huge fan because the meat is usually a bit tougher and you have to eat around the bones 5. Chicken Katsu - crispy and delicious, pretty consistent 6. Kahlua Pork (with cabbage) - I love this stuff. It's salty and tender with bits of cabbage mixed in. I especially like frying up the leftovers with eggs in an omelet the next day! Total Luau in my apartment! 7. Fried Mahi Mahi - so much better than the usual fast food fish patties. Even buried under shrimp in my L&L Combo and packed in a plastic container and forced to endure the 15 minute cold bike ride to my office, this stuff was amazingly crispy and hot. LOVE IT! 8. Fried Shrimp - butterflied, tasty and crispy. My only gripe is that they are not deveined, so if that grosses you out, you'll want to order something else 9. Macaroni Salad - YUM! Really creamy and not too flavorful to balance out the flavor-packed protein options Other things I've tried: 10. Hawaiian Haupia (Coconut P

Being from Hawaii, this place reminds me of home. Not exactly fine dining (especially to haoles, who may not be used to Hawaiian junk food - there's a reason Hawaiians are big people) but it's quick and cheap, and fairly authentic.

Don't eat here, the chicken and short ribs were absolutely disgusting the meat was all fatty and chewy. Not impressed. Actually made me sick and couldn't finish the dish.

Food is great. They forgot my soda and I called them asking what happened and the lady there insisted that I have my soda when I did not. I did not bother arguing with her. Other than that, the food was great

Terrible Service! I used to order from here for the fast service, despite the fact that the food was mediocre. The delivery guy called and told me to pick up my food. I went downstairs, and there was nobody there. I waited a bit, and then went back upstairs to call the restaurant. After speaking to someone at the restaurant who assured me that he would call the delivery guy. The delivery guy called, yelled at me to come down. When I asked where he was located, the jerk hung up on me. So I called the restaurant and told them that I no longer wanted the order. The guy on the phone said, "That's your choice, and hung up on me"
